When someone says “creative” to me, I think it means being able to draw, paint or sculpt something. These were all things that art tried to teach me how to do and I wasn’t any good at them at all. In fact I didn’t much care for art class as no matter how hard I tried, it didn’t look anything like the teacher’s example!

So for years, I considered myself as uncreative. And then during a spell of unemployment, I began picking out colours and enjoying the process of painting and decorating my home. I spent hours watching home decoration TV shows (there’s a whole channel dedicated to it in the US!) and looking on Pinterest for inspiration and I really got into it. In a different spell of unemployment, I found myself making beaded necklaces and earrings.

What’s Creativity?

So it got me to thinking that I might be creative after all. My creativity resides outside of the art classroom and I continue to find other ways to express myself creatively. Sometimes it’s about picking the right pictures for a PowerPoint presentation, other times it’s about framing that shot with my camera, and every so often it includes knitting needles or crochet hooks!

Where’s Your Creativity?

We all have creativity inside us. Where does yours get set free? What hobbies do you have that you may hide from others? Where do you find joy in life? Where does your soul get to express itself?

Some people build entire businesses out of their creative hobbies. Etsy, Pinterest, YouTube and other websites are full of inspiration. Are your creative endeavours potential money makers? Or would you prefer to keep them for your own pleasure.

Whatever you decide, keep finding new ways to express your creativity.  If you are not sure how, get in contact to learn more about how coaching could help you discover a more creative way of earning money.
