How often do you look at others and wish you had the guts, or the brains, or the resources, or the ________ to do what they do? Are they just lucky? Sometimes yes, mostly no. Are they dedicated? Of course! Do they have purpose and passion? Absolutely! You see, most of these people who are hugely successful in their lives and in their careers have dared to follow their true passion.
- They’ve dared to be big when others were telling them to be small.
- They’ve chosen to be brave when they could have cowered in the corner and believed what others were telling them.
- They’ve found their own level of boldness, whether it be in demonstrating their talent, their skill, or their unwavering commitment to follow their true passion – wherever that took them.
So what can you learn from them? There are thousands of people who can be your inspiration to be true to your own passions and your unique strengths. Choose someone in your everyday surroundings who you admire, or someone from the business world who has built a hugely successful company out of their passion/hobby (e.g. Dyson, Virgin, FaceBook, Google, Apple, etc), or someone who has followed their talent in singing, dancing, sports, or some other artistic vocation. You may find that you end up with a collection of people you identify as inspiration for yourself. Whomever you choose, know that you have chosen them because they dared to be bigger, braver, and bolder than everyone else.
Some Inspiration
Every so often there are songs that come along that have a beautiful message right there in the lyrics. We we barely pay attention to them. Sometimes it’s because we don’t expect that artist to have something profound to say. And sometimes it’s just because we don’t listen to the words. Well, today, I invite you to pay attention to what these two talented and brave ladies have to say:
Roar by Katy Perry |
Brave by Sara Bareilles |
I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath Scared to rock the boat and make a mess So I sat quietly, agreed politely I guess that I forgot I had a choice I let you push me past the breaking point I stood for nothing, so I fell for everythingYou held me down, but I got up (HEY!) Already brushing off the dust You hear my voice, you hear that sound Like thunder gonna shake the ground You held me down, but I got up (HEY!) Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough I see it all, I see it now I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire ‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar Louder, louder than a lion ‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar Oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh You’re gonna hear me roarNow I’m floating like a butterfly Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes I went from zero, to my own hero
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire

You can be amazing Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do Say what you wanna say With what you want to say I just want to see you Everybody’s been there, everybody’s been stared down Say what you wanna say With what you want to say And since your history of silence Say what you wanna say With what you want to say I just want to see you |
